The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, signed a decree on 11 June 2019, ordering the dismissal of members of the National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture (MNPCT). The MNPCT will henceforth be operated by volunteers and without any pay from the State. Such measure will prevent the good functioning of MNPCT and compromise its independence.

World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), Justiça Global and GAJOP are calling for the cancellation of the decree.
