Areas with cardboard booths are provided to protect confidentiality. In the past 2016 elections, vote-counting machines were already available throughout Puerto Rico, including correctional institutions.

They are transported according to their currentmodule to the voting area in the institution. Already in the voting area, one prisoner is directed per booth.

The Sociedad para asistencia legal de puerto rico reports no incidents.

Before election day, the State Elections Commission staff visits institutions to complete the registration process of the voter as a prisoner.They also guide them on the procedures to vote. Candidates running for elective offices have been allowed to go to the institutions to present their government proposals.
